Parametric Object: A Lamp

 My plan with this project is to eventually fabricate a Lamp. I started by tiles that would panel onto the surface of a shape, allowing me to play with a variety of shapes, and possibly sizes for the lamp.

I want to make a lamp that would allow for me to attach different textiles such as various fabrics, yarn, threads, and woven fibres onto the surface of the lamp. In addition to the framed textiles, I intend to attach each larger panel using a strong thread or yarn to make the addition of the textiles not only aesthetic but also functional. I think that the light coming through each panel would look really cool and interesting. 

That is why I chose to create panels, it would allow for a frame with holes to attach the textiles to. 

With using both Rhino and Grasshopper, I can have fun with changing the different shapes and even different sizes of the lamp.

I will be making each of the panels by cutting wood using a laser cutter, I think the use of wood would allow for it to be lightweight.

What other materials would look interesting for the panels?

I really wanted to get the cylinder to move along the curve in the middle of the indent, from one end to the other but I could not figure out how to do that. I tried using the lists functions on grasshopper, assuming I could achieve my goal using it? I don't think I understand lists as well as I thought I did.

What should I do next time to make something move from one end of a curve to the other?

My First Definition: Snakes?

Followed a Tutorial and created an interesting bulbous shape.

From there I took what I learned and made my own design. Based on how I thought the tutorial shape kind of looked like a snake I decided to run with that idea with my own design.

Through making this design I had slight difficulty replicating the designs, but I think I was able to figure it out mostly, unsure as to why the loft boxes in the replications is orange?

I wanted to change the colour of the loft, however after some trial and error I was not able to figure that out, Some green and yellow snakes would've been cool.
